Gordon Bayne

Background & Experience
Gordon joined Scott Bennett Associates in 1987 and became Managing Director in 1996. In 2006 whilst retaining his role as Managing Director (Chairman) of the Group he also became Managing Director of the Dunfermline Business Unit. Gordon is a chartered engineer and has worked in consulting civil & structural engineering practices since 1982. With over 30 years’ experience he has gained experience in all types of engineering design.

Key Skills & Abilities
Gordon’s particular strengths lie in the design of steel frame structures and multi storey buildings.  Gordon is fully conversant with the current building standards and is capable of defining the primary structural concept of complicated works at an early stage of the design process.  Gordon has the ability to oversee several projects at a time.  He has worked on Projects with contract value up to £76million and is actively involved in the detail design and checking of designs whilst providing technical back-up and sound knowledge base for design issues. Gordon is well respected as being commercially aware engineer and understands the commercial drivers that his Clients face in the delivery of a Project.  He actively values engineers at all stages in the Project to assist in deliverability.

Robert Storey

Background & Experience
Robert joined the practice in 1994 and became a Director 1996. In 2006 whilst retaining his role of Director at Group level he became Managing Director of the Glasgow Business Unit. Robert is a chartered engineer and has worked in consulting engineering practice since 1978 and been involved in the design and supervision of a wide range of civil and structural engineering projects throughout the UK and abroad.

Key Skills & Abilities
Robert has a particular interest in brownfield redevelopment and has been responsible for co-ordinating the design of major publicly funded urban regeneration schemes throughout the central belt of Scotland involving contaminated land remediation, infrastructure works, specialist foundation and mining consolidation works. Robert also has a wide experience of innovative and environmentally sustainable construction methods. He is an approved certifier for buildings under the Scottish Building Standards Regulations and provides structural design advice to clients on a wide range of building types.

Craig Stevenson

Background & Experience
Craig joined Scott Bennett Associates in 1999 and became a Director of the Dunfermline Business Unit in 2006. He is a chartered engineer with over 20 years' experience in the construction industry, with significant involvement in the Residential and Education sectors.

Key Skills & Abilities
Craig's particular strengths are his ability to design in all the main structural materials, masonry, concrete, steel and timber as well as providing cost effective civil engineering design solutions. He is fully conversant with current building standards and construction methods and is capable of designing economical, buildable solutions. Craig has been involved in a wide range of Projects including Large Scale Residential Projects, Schools, Offices, Retail and Refurbishment works. He has also been involved in many projects involving sustainable, modern methods of construction for residential dwellings.

Colin Campbell

Background & Experience
Colin graduated in 1990 with a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by a large multi-national contractor prior to joining a well established Glasgow based consulting civil & structural engineering practice in 1993. Colin joined Scott Bennett Associates in 1996 and was appointed as a Director of the Glasgow Business Unit in 2006.

Key Skills & Abilities
Colin's particular area of interest is residential and public building projects, including major urban regeneration with complex infrastructure design. He progresses all aspects of these developments from master planning through to detailed design. Colin is conversant with the funding arrangements for public sector contracts and all forms of procurement. In addition he has worked in partnership with a large number of design and build contractors and is able to give sound value engineering advice on these projects.

Brian Hamilton

Background & Experience
In 1999 Brian joined Scott Bennett Associates and in 2006 became a Director of the Glasgow Business Unit. On graduating in 1988 Brian joined a consulting structural engineering practice based in Sheffield and worked on various high profile projects including the Don Valley Athletic Stadium constructed in Sheffield in 1991. Following this he returned to Glasgow in 1992 working with a civil and engineering consultancy and has gained over 20 years experience in all aspects of civil and structural engineering.

Key Skills & Abilities
Brian has been responsible for design and redevelopment of brownfield sites for social housing. This has primarily involved the design of inner city regeneration projects including traditional sandstone tenements, improvement schemes, alterations and refurbishment of 1950's housing stock and new build residential developments. He has also been involved in several private new build housing projects as well as various commercial projects. Brian has also recently completed several steel frame projects including the West Centre, Drumchapel for the NHS and Wellwynd Social Enterprise Centre for South Lanarkshire Council. He is also responsible for helping with the continued development and growth of the company.

Ken Guthrie

Background & Experience
Ken joined Scott Bennett Associates in 2004 and became an Associate Director of the Dunfermline Business Unit in 2010. Ken has worked in consulting civil & structural engineering practices since graduating in 1983. Ken's experience has been in the design of building structures predominantly in the education, retail, commercial, leisure and residential sectors.

Key Skills & Abilities
Ken's particular strength is his ability to refurbish listed buildings. He has experience in design of structures in steel, in-situ concrete, precast concrete, masonry and timber. Ken has participated in a number of project related building workshops which have enhanced his ability to make teams successful. He has worked on Projects from simple housing design to complex new builds with value up to £80million.

Douglas Adam

Background & Experience
Douglas joined Scott Bennett Associates in 2010 as an Associate Director of the Dunfermline Business Unit. Douglas gained his Professional Qualification IEng AMIStructE in 2001. He has extensive experience in a range of multi-million pound developments for a wide and varied client base across the commercial, retail, leisure and education sectors.

Key Skills & Abilities
Douglas' particular strengths lie in the design and management of Commercial, Industrial and Public Buildings, having gained a considerable amount of experience throughout his career. Douglas believes the balance of his hands on project experience complimented with project management and client interface skills, can bring significant value to any project.

Eric Graham

Background & Experience
Eric has been involved in the design and supervision of housing developments for over 22 years and joined Scott Bennett Associates Ltd as an Associate of the Glasgow Business Unit in 2007.

Key Skills & Abilities
Eric has experience of working on a variety of civil and structural engineering projects which include structures for railways, marine works and design of a variety of buildings both traditional and steel frame. He has an interest in high rise framed structures.

Paul McGhie

Background & Experience
Paul joined Scott Bennett Associates in 2009 and became an Associate of the Glasgow Business Unit in 2010. Pauls experience includes design in all traditional and non-traditional methods of construction, steel, concrete and timber frames as well as structural inspection/ reporting on existing properties and the conversion and refurbishment of existing properties.

Key Skills & Abilities
Paul has been responsible for the structural design and supervision of retail, commercial and housing developments for over 22 years and this includes work with registered social landlords local authorities and prominent private housing developers. Paul also has a special interest in explosive demolition of high rise properties and has supervised a number of this type of project.

Brian Lilley

Background & Experience
Brian has been in the construction industry for over 20 years, he joined Scott Bennett Associates in 1994 and became an Associate 1999 and is the senior CDM Co-ordinator within the practice. He has experience of project management and programming and has undertaken CDM co-ordinator services for over 14 years on a wide range of public and private sector projects ranging in value up to £60m.

Key Skills & Abilities
Brian is a registered member of The Association of Project Safety and has a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health. Brian has provided CDMC services for diverse projects such as major new build industrial developments, secondary schools, offices and housing projects as well as significant regeneration projects and refurbishment of historic properties. He has also provided advice for commercial retail fit outs and cyclical maintenance work. Brian regularly arranges training seminars and road shows both in house for our staff and externally for clients on CDM procedures.

Mo Bayne

Background & Experience
Mo joined Scott Bennett Associates in 1996 as Resource/Quality/Finance Manager and Company Secretary. She became a Director within the Dunfermline Business Unit in 2006. Mo has over 20 years' experience in Personnel & Development and is a Fellow of both Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and Chartered Institute of Management. She actively manages the quality and Investors in People Process as well as the financial side of the business.

Key Skills & Abilities
Mo's strengths are recruitment, human resources, policy and the strategic management of the Practice. She manages to balance the needs of the business with the needs of the staff within the financial budgets. She assists the Directors in all non-technical aspects of the business, thereby allowing them to focus on clients and projects.
