Balmossie Estate, Broughty Ferry, Dundee (£1.3M) [ top ]

As part of the housing development the site infrastructure necessitated the crossing of an existing watercourse. The design adopted utilised the design and construction of a new bridge to access the site. The bridge is 16m span and is constructed using in situ concrete abutments with precast concrete bridge beams forming the deck. General infrastructure design within the site utilised SUDS principles throughout.

Heavy Foundation Engineering, Cowie (1.2M) [ top ]

As part of continual upgrading programme at Nexfor, Cowie a new production line was to be installed within an existing building which had become surplus to requirements. The works comprised the construction of extensive foundations below the existing slab level with pits up to 4-5m deep designed to accommodate press foundations. The works involved us in detail discussion with the plant manufacturer in Belgium to ensure the most appropriate solution was adopted.

Glenlyon Road, Leven [ top ]

This project for Kingdom Housing Association involved significant civil engineering preparatory works which would allow the site to be developed for housing. The site was brownfield and heavily contaminated. Other constraints included major services which cross the site and significant topographical features.

The solution employed on site used significant earthworks operations to invert the soil profile by placing contaminated material below an inert capsulation layer. This activity allowed the site to be regraded and the previously uncompacted fill to be placed in a controlled manner allowing the use of raft foundations in the future development of the site. At one end of the site a 4m high gabion basket wall was introduced to maximise developable land. Services were diverted to suit the proposed development layout.

This development was required as part of the overall masterplan to construct a 200m long access road with a termination roundabout from which individual estate roads would be constructed.

The design necessitated crossing a burn subject to significant flood events and a box culvert solution was adopted.
